Harmony Kingdom: Fabulous Five Out For A Drive

When we talk about Disney, how can we forget about the main Disney characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto? It is certainly peculiar that Harmony Kingdom chose to feature them as the second figurine from the Disney series. The first one is Winnie the Pooh, by the way. It was released in 1997 and limited to 7489 pieces. Robert King is credited as the artist and the figurine is made in England with original retail price of USD 95. The 4.06" x 3.74" x 3.74" figurine is housed in a 6.1" diameter and 7.2" tall cylinder.

Unfortunately, I got a broken figurine with Goofy's nose missing. I was not careful in checking the seller's pictures as it was actually already broken right from the start. Sigh.. I guess it was by chance that the photo was against dark background that I did not realise Goofy was nose-less. Although it was advertised as "new", if I knew Goofy was without nose, I would definitely not buy this!
Front view.. Nobody is looking to the front though!

Putting aside Goofy's missing nose, I still feel "MEH" about this figurine. Firstly, I don't think there is a thing called Fabulous Five in Disney. Since they already squeeze in these guys, they might as well add Daisy and Chip and Dale to the already overcrowded car. At least we will have the full main Disney cast!

While the sculpt itself is great: cheerful Pluto, grumpy Donald, ah-hyuckish Goofy, pretty Minnie, and normal Mickey (oops sorry Mickey, can't find an adjective for you.. Lol), I have problems with the car. Does this car have some special place in Disney history? No idea why they would put the setting of a car for this piece although they earn brownie points from me for having the spare tyre with the same colour as the other 4 tyres. On top of that, I hate how the characters are all looking at different direction which makes it difficult to choose an angle for display. Goofy seems to be speaking to Mickey but Mickey's eyes are looking at Minnie although his face and mouth are facing Goofy. I thought that is a mess and I have no idea what story they are trying to depict with this figurine.

So yeah, this figurine is a miss for me.

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Snow White

Snow White is the fourth figurine from Harmony Kingdom Disney series which was released in 1999 with original retail price of USD 95. Similar to Pooh and Friends, Snow White is also created by artist Theresa Miller and is made in England. The edition size is rather high at 3882. The box measures 5.5" in diameter and 6.5" in height, which is rather big considering the figure is only about 3.39" x 3.35" x 3.86" in size.

The figurine arrived undamaged and it came with Certificate of Authenticity and Harmony Kingdom mini booklet. The Certificate of Authenticity was rather disappointing: just a piece of paper with no serial number whatsoever. Now I wonder how my resource gets the information regarding the edition size.

The figure depicts Snow White, at the centre, being surrounded by the 7 dwarfs. It is a rather simple design but perfectly captures the essence of the title of the cartoon: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Similar to Pooh and Friends, I hate the rather lacklustre color. The sculpt for the dwarfs is great. Honestly I don't remember the names but from the expressions, I can more or less guess the names. Unfortunately, the star i.e Snow White, has a very chubby face here. Wow.. To be honest, I hate Snow White the most among all the Disney Princesses but this figurine really made her damn fat and ugly! Sigh!

Let's get to the 7 dwarfs. Honestly, I have difficulty differentiating between Sneezy and Happy. I even tried to google but the poor color of the figurine just makes it impossible. Haiz.. I think Happy should have bigger tummy and that's how I finally went on with my guess here. Lol.
Sneezy, Dopey
Doc, Sleepy and 2 random animals
Happy, Grumpy, Bashful
You've got to agree that she looks terribly chubby here right?
The figurine is split nicely into two parts

No surprise that the surprise is the poisonous apple :)
Kinda nice that the the base looks like a sunflower with the dwarves' feet
Again, I think I should not complain because I got a full refund for this. But I don't think I will spend money on this even if I like Snow White. The dwarfs look great here but I hate that chubby Snow White :(

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Pooh and Friends

Pooh and Friends is the first figurine from Harmony Kingdom Disney series released in 1997. Unlike newer figurines which are made in China, this item is made in England. With an edition size of 7835, it is quite a big number to consider this as a limited edition item. The retail price was USD 75 and Theresa Miller is the artist behind this piece. The 3.07" x 3.07" x 3.07" figurine is housed in a packaging cylinder with 4" diameter and 6.5" height.

I find it stunning to have all characters, except Christopher Robin, to be squeezed into such a small figure without giving an overcrowding impression. In fact, Pooh and Friends seem to be a very jovial and fun mood here. I will liken it to a group of friends trying to squeeze themselves when taking a group photo.

On the negative side, I have issues with the colors. Not sure if the colors are like these from the production or they have faded with time. Pooh and Kanga are sort of milky white which is not different from the colour of the base! Tigger and Eeyore's color are not sharp enough. Surprisingly, only Piglet looks perfect here despite him being squeezed at the bottom.

Scale is another issue. Roo is really minute here. I check Winnie the Pooh art work. Although Roo is smaller than Piglet, their size is sort of comparable. Roo is way too small here be it for comparison with Piglet or for comparison if he is to be inside Kanga's pouch.
Missing certificate of authenticity :(

Hmm... so what is the surprise?
A pot of hunny!! Disappointing colors and where are the bees??

If I am a Winnie the Pooh fan, I don't think I will be satisfied with this figurine. However, considering that this is the first figurine of the Harmony Kingdom Disney, I will say it is not too bad of a try. Anyway I sort of getting this for free so I should not complain so much :p

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Group Hug

As promised, I will be posting more pictures of Harmony Kingdom Disney figurines which I have and I will start with Group Hug from Aladdin first. This piece was released in 2002 and was only available at Disneyana Convention 2002 as Official Disneyana Mystery (In case you are wondering, Disneyana is a term for wide variety of Disney-related merchandise). The run size is 500 and the retail price was USD 250. The box measures 9" (L) x 7.5" (W) x 6.8" (H) while the figurine itself is about 6.75" (L) x 3.75" (W) x 3.75" (H). It is considered quite a large Harmony Kingdom piece and the artist behind this masterpiece is Robert King.

I am very satisfied with this as this sort of become a replacement of the impossible to get Aladdin Capodimonte -the holy grail of all Aladdin figurines out there- not only because it shares the same title "Group Hug" but also because it features all the main cast: Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Abu, Jafar, Iago, Sultan, Rajah, and even Magic Carpet!
The logo is on the top side of the box
Mine is number 103 out of 500

Moving on to the figurines itself.

Jafar and Iago (No close up of Carpet as it has no face :p)
Harmony Kingdom Disney pieces are unique because they always have secret compartments within the figurines.
Open up the top part to reveal the secret compartment

The secret is Aladdin's magic lamp!!
Wait.. you can actually open the lamp lid to reveal the scarab beetle!!
The felt underneath is coming off and has to be secured with a tape. That the only imperfection!
Honestly I was quite unsure about this figurine the first time I saw them. Some parts seem as if the color is fading off! But after comparing with other Harmony Kingdom figurines, I think it is their art style and I quite like the old and antique feeling. That's why I don't mind getting the 6-figures-as-one auction subsequently. Heh! I am all but satisfied with this although I find Jasmine and Aladdin look "squeezed" rather than "hugged" by Genie. Haha.. In addition, I wish the sculpt for the couple would be more similar to the cartoon version :( Perfect faces for the other characters though. It was ~USD 150 well spent for me and realistically I should not compare with Capodimonte which is worth perhaps 10x more or perhaps 20x more including the shipping. Well.. someday when I own my own place, I will definitely get Capodimonte version, provided that they are not sold out yet. Haha..

Harmony Kingdom Disney

I experienced withdrawal symptoms after returning from Disneyland Paris and I was trying my luck whether I could buy Aladdin statue which I saw at Disney Parks online. Well, I could not.. Getting Aladdin Capodimonte figurine is just a wishful thinking but I guess I was in a good luck when I saw another Aladdin figurine with the same title "Group Hug" as Capodimonte. This time, the figurine is from Harmony Kingdom and it features all the main characters!

Honestly I never come across Harmony Kingdom collectibles prior to this. Harmony Kingdom figurines are handmade of crushed marble and resin so they are usually more affordable than porcelain figurines although they are equally likely to break during shipping :p Harmony Kingdom figurines always have limited production number so they are sort of limited-edition items. They have one line dedicated for Disney figurines and the figurines also serve as treasure boxes as they always have detachable parts which reveal a small compartment to store your keepsakes. Putting functionality aside, inside these small compartments, there is always a little suprise-something related to the Disney cartoons that the figurines depict.

I purchased Aladdin without thinking twice about the price USD 124.99. The seller only shipped to USA and I took the risk of trying comgateway as my forwarder as I already banned vPOST. With first time discount and upgrade, the shipping cost me USD 24.32. comgateway ships via DHL and their service is awesome! My item arrived in less than a week -in fact it was even 3 days earlier than their projected delivery date-. There was nobody at home to receive the package so I just got the failed delivery notice after I returned from work. I called their hotline to arrange another delivery timing and I was pleasantly surprised that they even offered to deliver on weekends!! Wow.. The surprise did not end there. I guess the guy whom I called did not inform the courier about the weekend arrangement and the delivery guy made another delivery attempt at 930pm!! vPOST can seriously go and die..

Oops.. I digressed and talked about comgateway instead. Lol. Going back to Harmony Kingdom, after getting Aladdin, I saw another seller selling a lot of  6 figures: Lion King, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Snow White, Donald Duck, and Mickey-Minnie-Donald-Goofy-Pluto. I won the auction with USD 102.50 which was a very good deal. I was charged USD 20 for international shipping and I felt quite bad because I saw USD 60+ as postage fee that the seller actually paid. Unfortunately, this transaction was quite a sham! Items were described as new but they were not even their original packaging!! Zz.. They are still in their original boxes but the internal packaging was gone and replaced with just bubble wrap. As a result, some damaged occurred during shipping! Some items were damaged right from the start as I could not find any of the missing parts inside the box. For these things, I got a full refund so I basically I got these items for free. Am I suppose to feel happy for that?

Just teaser photos for today :) Not all packaging boxes are pictured because I only used the boxes to prop the figures up. I will post the pictures of each item on my subsequent posts in the coming days/weeks. Hehe..

Relapse

My lunch today was sort of a continuation from dinner yesterday as I found myself asking the same question: how do other people can eat more than me but their bodies remain slim? I had my lunch at Menya Musashi today. It was my first meal there perhaps in more than 2 months. I chose to get something new in their menu: curry ramen as well as a promotional ala-carte side dish called Full Mineral Hijiki Tsukune. The curry ramen was not up to my expectation both in the amount and texture of the meat as well as the curry flavour. Hijiki tsukune is pork minced meat being fried and covered with tofu skin. The description sounds unique but after tasting it, there is nothing special. I find the egg peculiar as I am not sure whether it is meant to be eaten separately or to be mixed with the tsukune.
Full mineral hijiki tsukune.. picture is taken from Google search as I don't take pictures of food :p
Okay the thing I want to talk about is not about the food but the guy on the next table. He ordered Tsukemen with 4x ramen (480g of ramen alone) and an okonomiyaki!! Gosh.. Seeing his size which is comparable to me, I wonder how he could manage to finish that! I tried 2x ramen (240g) and it was like a punishment finishing it. Today I already felt full after half bowl of my single serving ramen (120g)!! Jealous.. I wanna be slim too :(

Well, there goes my weight-loss plan. I am very demoralised. In just a week, I failed to fulfil my promise of 3x night jogging. I only did once this week. Wanted to run tonight but I was too emo over toys. This morning, by chance, I saw an eBay seller selling Final Fantasy VIII Kotobukiya Transcendent Artist statues. $700 each for Selphie-Quistis-Leviathan and Zell-Irvine-Diablos. After exchanging offers, I was offered $625 and $630 respectively. You may wonder why I wanted to buy another pair when I already owned one.

Greed.. That's the answer. I bought Selphie-Quistis-Leviathan for USD 1225 (exclusive shipping) last year so that was almost price today. Really really sad :( Zell-Irvine-Diablos cost me somewhere near USD 850 but it was reimbursed in full due to damaged during shipping. Of course storage space is a concern. I even considered flying home in a few weeks time just to ship one of them home. Yep, I don't mind having 1 at home and 1 in Singapore.

To prevent myself from buying impulsely, I decided to have my lunch before making a decision. I decided to just get Selphie-Quistis-Leviathan because this was much more rare and $625 was really a good bargain. When I reached home, I did not get it.. Sigh.. The seller already sold it to someone for $600. He offered me $625 yet he accepted $600 from others!! Haiz.. Damn damn damn!! I sent a message that I wanted to get both statues, not either, and if I could not get both, I would not buy both. It is just my wishful thinking for the seller to cancel the $600 and just let me grab the thing for $625.

And as ridiculous as this sounds, my heart was pumping very hard in anger and shock when I saw that the item had been sold :( Because of that, I skipped mass. Totally no mood.. Another broken promise to start changing my life and attend mass religiously again. Oh well.. I know it was ridiculous for me to "blame" God for such a trivial thing.

That is my pathetic life so far. Day in day out only getting stressed over deciding whether to buy or not to buy certain toys. If I buy, I will be stressed over finding a storage space. If I don't buy, I will keep thinking about it for many months. Seriously, what's the purpose of my life!

People can be ridiculous when it comes to collectibles. I saw Locke (FF VI) Chrome figure being sold for 50300 Yen at Yahoo! Auction Japan? It is special because its serial number is 0001 out of 3000 being produced. For any item with limited release size, there is a general believe that the smaller numbers have better quality. And guess the original price of the item? 2400 Yen!! Yes.. it is worth 20x more at 13 years later. Haha..

Nope, I am not sad over this because I am still sane not to spend that huge amount of money for a small ugly figurine. I won't even pay the same amount for Squall or Rinoa number 0001 or 0888 haha.. I rather spent USD 600 for Selphie-Quistis-Leviathan statue :(

Another crazy dream!

It is amazing to see what human brain is capable of doing even when the human is in deep slumber. I just had another bizarre dream last night and it was even weirder because it was totally unrelated to my state of mind. I would not be surprised if I dream of something which has been bugging my mind lately or of something stimulating (be it in a positive or negative way) which I just watch, read, or listen before I go to bed.

Well the dream began with me going to check-in to a hotel. On the other side of the reception desk, I recognised Nakajima Kento and Sato Shori. I approached them and asked them if I recognised them correctly as members of Sexy Zone. They did not expect to be recognised and were telling each other "Eh how come someone is able to recognise us!". Haha.. Since they wanted to keep it secretive, I asked them whether I could take pictures together and got their autograph later night and they agreed.

Before going out to the city, they disguised themselves with dark sunglasses and unusual hairstyles so that nobody else would recognise them. And somehow the other 3 members also appeared. Due to the heat, somehow their disguise sort of melted and crazy fangirls started to recognise them. We (yes, I had no idea how I ended up with them) decided to split and escaped. I flagged a taxi and boarded together with 1 member which I could not recall who. Somehow the scene changed to my main street outside my home in Jakarta and I asked the taxi driver to turn left towards my house. He refused and I remembered trying to strangle him (What??!!) and telling him "If you are trying to kidnap us, I will jump out of the taxi". I opened the taxi door and as I was contemplating whether to jump (and kill myself) or not, my alarm clock rang!! Darn!! Just right on the exciting part!! Haha.. So yeah, in the end I did not get any photos and autograph of them. Lol.

I am aware that Sexy Zone is going to release their 5th single on 9th October. However, I am not too excited about it and the last time I listened to the song was like 2 days ago. No idea why suddenly they invaded my dream last night. Anyway, here is the song preview, or rather the full song, before the copyright cops take it down!

Well since we are at the topic of J-Pop, I might as well visit AKB48 which I no longer feel excited about after a string of boring and sound-alike singles. Surprisingly, their singles are still constantly exceeding 1 million sales. Hmm hmm.. Perhaps it is only I who gets bored of them. Their latest single "Koi Suru Fortune Cookies" marks the departure of Mariko Shinoda and Tomomi Itano, the 2 members which I actually like. Sigh.. The song is quite average and the video clip is rather disappointing for AKB48 whose previous PVs are often over-the-toply cutesy etc. Many fans actually complain that there is less screen time for the members as compared to random faces of the public. Anyway the PV is shot in Fukuoka where Mariko Shinoda is from.

There is staff version too and the staff are more hilarious to watch than the random people on the street in the official PV!

At the same time, sister group JKT48 also released Indonesian version of the same song. Surprisingly, I find that this version sounds "brighter" and more energetic. It makes AKB48's version sounds lethargic! Anyway, it still does not make the song more appealing to me haha..

There was company's Active Day this afternoon and it was a rather waste of time. Other than mass exercise for 10 minutes, there was nothing else for us to do except for watching the people who were competing to complete the obstacle course. I think even for the competitors, it was rather passive -_- 10 push ups -> 10 sit-ups -> 10s planking -> 10 lunges -> 10 star jumps -> 10 burpees -> 50m (or less) sprint. That is for the "elite" category or those below 40 years old. For those above 40, make the "10"s to "5"s. Phew...

In the evening, I had a meet-up with my uni friends. It was the first time that we had full attendance!! Yay! We had a meating (meeting-and-eating) at Ssikek Korean BBQ in United Square. The place was crazily crowded. After eating, I was not surprised. I paid $28.30 and it was worth it with the amout of meat that I ate. My only complaint was that their drinks and salad dressings were too sweet for my taste!! Haha.. I am really jealous when I see people with smaller body size can eat much more than me. I am not jealous with the eating part but with the body part. Haha.. I control my diet (small servings of rice and eat vegetables for half of my meals) and I clock in at least 30 minutes of physical exercise (walking :p) daily but I am still getting fat. Haiz.. I wonder if it is something to do with too much sleep =x Anyway, it was a good place to eat. When we exited, our hair, skin, clothes, and even bags (!!) smelled like BBQ!! Haha.. Oh ya, and the Vienna seafood restaurant nearby smells and looks good too! Hehe..

And I received this very nice keychain from Malacca. A very apt message to read everytime I feel emo :(

Jealousy

Jealousy is such a negative and destructive emotion. It clouds your mind and blinds you from all blessings which God has given you. And that is what exactly happening to me when I hear that my sister is going to be sent over to Germany by her company while here I am being a loser and a sucker at my job! Sigh.. I am not jealous of her but of the situation. I am happy that she is able to go, not that I want her not to go, but I am jealous that I don't even have such opportunity with what I am currently doing.

Now now.. honestly.. which is better
1) Able to stay at own home with family, drive your own car to work, get paid by company for overseas assignments occasionally, but earn a little to be able to afford things that you desire
or
2)  Living overseas at rental place with no family, take public transport to work, be a loser at losers' workplace, but earn a lot to be able to afford things that you desire until you have a headache trying to find storage space.

My sister is number 1 while I am number 2. If I can choose, I want to stay at home with my family, earn a lot so that I am able to buy a lot of toys and display them at my own room at home without having to think about where to store and what happen if I have to move house etc. Unfortunately, there is no such option.. which means, no matter what happens, I will just be an ungrateful brat constantly cursing God for my own life bla bla bla..

But honestly, deep in my heart, I prefer staying with family. Yes, it's cool to have these expensive toys but I can live without having them. I used not to have them when I was a kid anyway. If I don't have enough money, I would not even think of owning them as perhaps I will just be glad admiring them on the internet or on the shop displays. Money is not necessarily a good thing. The fact that I have money now is the one making me feel obliged to spend them. It makes me desperate to look at nice things for me to buy. If I buy, I will then be stressed over where to store them. If I don't buy, I will keep thinking about them. After all, what's the point of just keeping the money in the bank? I don't have a fetish and get excited by watching the numbers in my bank book increase every month. So ultimately, what is happiness for me? What is the purpose of my life? I am simply lost on this earth. And every night, I can only cry and pray for forgiveness.. for my ungratefulness.. for my constant complaints despite all the good things God has given me.

Yesterday there was JCI internal audit at my workplace. As a junior pharmacist, I honestly did not expect to be questioned but that was not what happened. Somehow, I got arrowed for "interrogation". The experience made me realise that I still have a looooong way to be promoted to be a senior pharmacist. Sigh.. There are still a lot of things I am not sure/familiar with. There again.. thinking about promotion and more money bla bla bla.. Money is really the root of all evil sia!!
