Harmony Kingdom: Fabulous Five Out For A Drive

When we talk about Disney, how can we forget about the main Disney characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto? It is certainly peculiar that Harmony Kingdom chose to feature them as the second figurine from the Disney series. The first one is Winnie the Pooh, by the way. It was released in 1997 and limited to 7489 pieces. Robert King is credited as the artist and the figurine is made in England with original retail price of USD 95. The 4.06" x 3.74" x 3.74" figurine is housed in a 6.1" diameter and 7.2" tall cylinder.

Unfortunately, I got a broken figurine with Goofy's nose missing. I was not careful in checking the seller's pictures as it was actually already broken right from the start. Sigh.. I guess it was by chance that the photo was against dark background that I did not realise Goofy was nose-less. Although it was advertised as "new", if I knew Goofy was without nose, I would definitely not buy this!
Front view.. Nobody is looking to the front though!

Putting aside Goofy's missing nose, I still feel "MEH" about this figurine. Firstly, I don't think there is a thing called Fabulous Five in Disney. Since they already squeeze in these guys, they might as well add Daisy and Chip and Dale to the already overcrowded car. At least we will have the full main Disney cast!

While the sculpt itself is great: cheerful Pluto, grumpy Donald, ah-hyuckish Goofy, pretty Minnie, and normal Mickey (oops sorry Mickey, can't find an adjective for you.. Lol), I have problems with the car. Does this car have some special place in Disney history? No idea why they would put the setting of a car for this piece although they earn brownie points from me for having the spare tyre with the same colour as the other 4 tyres. On top of that, I hate how the characters are all looking at different direction which makes it difficult to choose an angle for display. Goofy seems to be speaking to Mickey but Mickey's eyes are looking at Minnie although his face and mouth are facing Goofy. I thought that is a mess and I have no idea what story they are trying to depict with this figurine.

So yeah, this figurine is a miss for me.

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Snow White

Snow White is the fourth figurine from Harmony Kingdom Disney series which was released in 1999 with original retail price of USD 95. Similar to Pooh and Friends, Snow White is also created by artist Theresa Miller and is made in England. The edition size is rather high at 3882. The box measures 5.5" in diameter and 6.5" in height, which is rather big considering the figure is only about 3.39" x 3.35" x 3.86" in size.

The figurine arrived undamaged and it came with Certificate of Authenticity and Harmony Kingdom mini booklet. The Certificate of Authenticity was rather disappointing: just a piece of paper with no serial number whatsoever. Now I wonder how my resource gets the information regarding the edition size.

The figure depicts Snow White, at the centre, being surrounded by the 7 dwarfs. It is a rather simple design but perfectly captures the essence of the title of the cartoon: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Similar to Pooh and Friends, I hate the rather lacklustre color. The sculpt for the dwarfs is great. Honestly I don't remember the names but from the expressions, I can more or less guess the names. Unfortunately, the star i.e Snow White, has a very chubby face here. Wow.. To be honest, I hate Snow White the most among all the Disney Princesses but this figurine really made her damn fat and ugly! Sigh!

Let's get to the 7 dwarfs. Honestly, I have difficulty differentiating between Sneezy and Happy. I even tried to google but the poor color of the figurine just makes it impossible. Haiz.. I think Happy should have bigger tummy and that's how I finally went on with my guess here. Lol.
Sneezy, Dopey
Doc, Sleepy and 2 random animals
Happy, Grumpy, Bashful
You've got to agree that she looks terribly chubby here right?
The figurine is split nicely into two parts

No surprise that the surprise is the poisonous apple :)
Kinda nice that the the base looks like a sunflower with the dwarves' feet
Again, I think I should not complain because I got a full refund for this. But I don't think I will spend money on this even if I like Snow White. The dwarfs look great here but I hate that chubby Snow White :(

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Pooh and Friends

Pooh and Friends is the first figurine from Harmony Kingdom Disney series released in 1997. Unlike newer figurines which are made in China, this item is made in England. With an edition size of 7835, it is quite a big number to consider this as a limited edition item. The retail price was USD 75 and Theresa Miller is the artist behind this piece. The 3.07" x 3.07" x 3.07" figurine is housed in a packaging cylinder with 4" diameter and 6.5" height.

I find it stunning to have all characters, except Christopher Robin, to be squeezed into such a small figure without giving an overcrowding impression. In fact, Pooh and Friends seem to be a very jovial and fun mood here. I will liken it to a group of friends trying to squeeze themselves when taking a group photo.

On the negative side, I have issues with the colors. Not sure if the colors are like these from the production or they have faded with time. Pooh and Kanga are sort of milky white which is not different from the colour of the base! Tigger and Eeyore's color are not sharp enough. Surprisingly, only Piglet looks perfect here despite him being squeezed at the bottom.

Scale is another issue. Roo is really minute here. I check Winnie the Pooh art work. Although Roo is smaller than Piglet, their size is sort of comparable. Roo is way too small here be it for comparison with Piglet or for comparison if he is to be inside Kanga's pouch.
Missing certificate of authenticity :(

Hmm... so what is the surprise?
A pot of hunny!! Disappointing colors and where are the bees??

If I am a Winnie the Pooh fan, I don't think I will be satisfied with this figurine. However, considering that this is the first figurine of the Harmony Kingdom Disney, I will say it is not too bad of a try. Anyway I sort of getting this for free so I should not complain so much :p

Harmony Kingdom Disney: Group Hug

As promised, I will be posting more pictures of Harmony Kingdom Disney figurines which I have and I will start with Group Hug from Aladdin first. This piece was released in 2002 and was only available at Disneyana Convention 2002 as Official Disneyana Mystery (In case you are wondering, Disneyana is a term for wide variety of Disney-related merchandise). The run size is 500 and the retail price was USD 250. The box measures 9" (L) x 7.5" (W) x 6.8" (H) while the figurine itself is about 6.75" (L) x 3.75" (W) x 3.75" (H). It is considered quite a large Harmony Kingdom piece and the artist behind this masterpiece is Robert King.

I am very satisfied with this as this sort of become a replacement of the impossible to get Aladdin Capodimonte -the holy grail of all Aladdin figurines out there- not only because it shares the same title "Group Hug" but also because it features all the main cast: Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Abu, Jafar, Iago, Sultan, Rajah, and even Magic Carpet!

Mine is number 103 out of 500

Moving on to the figurines itself.

Jafar and Iago (No close up of Carpet as it has no face :p)
Harmony Kingdom Disney pieces are unique because they always have secret compartments within the figurines.
Open up the top part to reveal the secret compartment

The secret is Aladdin's magic lamp!!
Wait.. you can actually open the lamp lid to reveal the scarab beetle!!
The felt underneath is coming off and has to be secured with a tape. That the only imperfection!
Honestly I was quite unsure about this figurine the first time I saw them. Some parts seem as if the color is fading off! But after comparing with other Harmony Kingdom figurines, I think it is their art style and I quite like the old and antique feeling. That's why I don't mind getting the 6-figures-as-one auction subsequently. Heh! I am all but satisfied with this although I find Jasmine and Aladdin look "squeezed" rather than "hugged" by Genie. Haha.. In addition, I wish the sculpt for the couple would be more similar to the cartoon version :( Perfect faces for the other characters though. It was ~USD 150 well spent for me and realistically I should not compare with Capodimonte which is worth perhaps 10x more or perhaps 20x more including the shipping. Well.. someday when I own my own place, I will definitely get Capodimonte version, provided that they are not sold out yet. Haha..
